Exhale – A Pro-voice Network for those who have had an Abortion

By Bonnie J. Abellera

Exhale is the Pro-voice outlier to the Pro-Choice and Pro-Life groups, which are often at odds in the media and at protests. Exhale supports the women who made an abortion decision by providing them with an outlet to express their feelings. Exhale also supports those whose partners or friends made the decision about having an abortion, as they may need someone to talk to, too. The group offers and provides a mental health outlet for individuals, which can be especially helpful when politics makes their personal or medical decision controversial. No matter how long ago an individual had an abortion, Exhale is available.

Exhale seeks to create a space where individuals can focus on their feelings around their experience of abortion. Exhale is committed to listening to individuals who have a wide variety of ideals and political beliefs, who have had abortions, and those who have a personal abortion experience and are seeking support to process their feelings. Exhale defines Pro-voice as a means to support and show care towards BIPOC and LGBTQ+ lives and their wellbeing, and a way to condemn the oppression of any marginalized group. Exhale is for everyone who needs its support.

The Exhale website provides more information about how to call, text, or join support circles to share abortion experiences, more often than not with others who have also had abortions themselves.

For the next few weeks, your Share the Plate donations to support Exhale’s efforts are appreciated.

Board Notes

By Gwendolyn Waldorf, Secretary

Your Executive Board sets policies and oversees church property, the conduct of church business, and the fulfillment of church purposes. You, as a congregation, elect its members, who serve staggered terms. The minister is a non-voting member.

At the December 16 meeting, the board asked that Greg DeAngelo and the Personnel Committee:

• include the Office Administrator position at 35 hours per week (currently at 30 hours per week) in the FY 2022-2023 asking budget,

• include two calculations for the Director of Religious Exploration position, one at the current 24 hours and one at 30 hours per week, for the FY 2022-2023 asking budget, and

• evaluate a (new) Tech position at 5 hours per week to assist with the streaming Sunday service, to begin in the current FY, 2021-2022.

The board discussed, among other topics, church campus security. Bonnie Abellera, VP for Management, agreed to report on the next steps to take, based on security reviews completed in 2013 and 2018.

Bonnie also updated the board on plans for the December 18th Festival on the Green community celebration.

The next monthly meeting is Thursday January 27 at 6:30 (on Zoom). Congregants are welcome to attend meetings and to address the board. To receive the agenda, the Zoom link, and/or to have an item placed on the agenda, contact President Brian Lee at
