Remembering Tom and Norene Chase

By Marty Beech

Tom and Norene Chase left of a memorial gift of $10,000 to the church through their Living Trust. Their daughter, Katherine Chase Caleen, wrote that the church held a special place in their hearts for 33 years. Many of us helped Tom celebrate his 100th birthday by participating in a parade in his honor. Tom is remembered for his many years of service as collecting treasurer for UUCT. He also took care of many maintenance projects in the church, including organizing the construction of the moveable platforms in the sanctuary.

Norene was active in social justice issues and the League of Women Voters. She encouraged the church to be active in the community. We are grateful for the many contributions and gifts of self from Tom and Norene Chase.

Our thoughts are with their children, Kathy Caleen, Beth Hollister, and Paul Chase. You are welcome to join UUCT members in contributing to this memorial for Tom and Norene by sending a check to UUCT.

Allies for Racial Equity at UUCT (ARE@UUCT)

By Linda Wright

Allies for Racial Equity supports Unitarian Universalist faith communities by helping congregations take bold steps to undo white supremacy and plant seeds of justice.

The national group is currently conducting virtual caucus sessions intended to nourish anti-racist community; to inspire attendees with a sense of parallel connectedness to DRUUMM (Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries); and practice flexing race-conscious reflection and analysis for sustainable anti-racist work.

Last week I attended the first of three sessions sponsored by ARE along with more than forty other white UUs who are doing ARE work in their own congregations. It was indeed inspiring and energizing. The second session will be on Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 am ET and the third session will be on Saturday, September 26 at 3:00 pm ET. If you would like to attend, you must pre-register using the links above.

Our local group, ARE@UUCT has met twice this month and we will be meeting again on Tuesday, September 29 at 10:30 am. We are committed to moving ourselves, our congregation, and the larger community towards becoming antiracist.

This is your invitation to join ARE and support the work of antiracism.

For more information on either the national caucus sessions later this month or ARE@UUCT, please contact Linda Wright.
